Extra virgin olive oil - as it is commonly known, free radicals are responsible for the oxidation process, and therefore the aging of our cells. Olive oil contains significant amounts of antioxidants: vitamin E and polyphenols. It contains very small amounts of saturated fatty acids.

Lutein - belongs to the group of carotenoids, natural, fat-soluble colorants. Carotenoids are produced by plants, algae, and photosynthetic bacteria. Lutein is part of the eye's macula and acts as a protection against UV rays, acting as an antioxidant.

Astaxanthin - is a pinkish-orange colorant from the group of carotenoids, produced by certain species of algae and giving a characteristic color to, among others, shrimp and salmon flesh.

Production of BioAstin

Cyanotech Corporation has been producing algae-based products for over 21 years.

To produce BioAstin natural astaxanthin from Haematococcus Pluvialis algae, cutting-edge technology is used. The initial phase of growing these algae takes place in closed pool systems with a capacity of up to 40,000 liters. Another short 5-7 day "red staining" cycle takes place in open tanks with a capacity of 50,000 liters. At each stage of BioAstin production, the Haematococcus algae cultures are microscopically inspected to ensure that the cultures are clean and free of contamination. At the end of the "red staining" cycle, the algae are harvested, washed, and dried. The final stage of BioAstin production is the extraction of the dried Haematococcus algae biomass using supercritical carbon dioxide into an oleoresin free from biological or environmental pollutants. The supercritical extraction process is a key production step that ensures the efficacy, purity and quality of BioAstin natural astaxanthin.

There is a common misconception that closed microalgae breeding tanks protect against contamination by other organisms. However, this is not true. These closed cultures can also be contaminated by other algae, fungi, and protozoa. In such a situation, removing biological contaminants from closed pools can be very difficult due to the specific nature of this type of farming system. In fact, continuous contamination of closed farms has caused serious problems for algae manufacturers in California, Europe, and Hawaii (not Cyanotech). Based on Cyanotech's many years of experience, closed and open breeding tank systems have been developed to minimize problems and ensure that algae products are free of contaminants.
