Leek (Allium ampeloprasum L.) is a biennial plant species of the amaryllis family (the garlic subfamily) native to Asia Minor. This tasty and healthy vegetable was known and cultivated in ancient Egypt, Greece, and Rome, and arrived in Poland in the Middle Ages thanks to Queen Bona of Italy.
Leek is a plant rich in vitamins - A, B, C, E and K - and minerals - calcium, iron, magnesium, phosphorus, potassium, sodium and zinc. It contains few calories, only about 30 per 100 g. Its regular consumption can have slimming, detoxifying, antihypertensive and disease-preventing properties.
To make the leek more digestible, it is worth heating it. p >
