Green beans are a variety of beans from the legume family. This annual plant, whose pods are so eagerly consumed in season, originates from Central and South America. Grown worldwide, including in Poland, as a legume, green beans are an ingredient in many dishes.
Green beans are one of the healthiest vegetables we can include in our diet. Rich in protein, fiber, vitamins—B, E, A, K, and C—and minerals—calcium, potassium, phosphorus, iron, and magnesium—green beans are divided into two types: green and yellow. Green beans are characterized by a higher content of beta-carotene and folic acid, while yellow beans contain a higher amount of phosphorus and potassium.
Green beans are a very versatile vegetable. They are most often combined with breadcrumbs, but they also work well with meat, potatoes, rice, eggs, and as an addition to soups and salads.
