History and Names:

In Sanskrit, the plant is called sarva roga nivarani, which means "medicine for all diseases." In India, it is called maha-tikta, or "king of bitterness," due to its bitter taste. It is also known in Malaysia as hempedu bumi (earth yellow) and, in Western countries, it is often called "Indian echinacea" (Indian coneflower).
