The cosmetic properties of peat were already appreciated by Cleopatra, and its healing properties were well known to the ancient Greeks. Currently, only therapeutic peat, known as peloid or peloid, is used.

Peat is rich in bitumen, pectins, cellulose, humic acids, fulvic acids, lignins, as well as phytohormones and other biologically active compounds. Inorganic substances are mainly macro and microelements.
