Silicon is an element that belongs to the group of semimetals. It was described by the French chemist and physicist Antoine Lavoisier in the 18th century, and pure silicon from silica was obtained in 1824 by Jöns Jacob Berzelius, a Swedish chemist and mineralogist. Silicon, after oxygen, is the most abundant element in nature. Its rich resources are found, among other things, in water, the lithosphere, and soil. It belongs to the group of micronutrients.
